Amazon Web Services (AWS) is taking its robotics services to the next level for developers with the launch of AWS RoboMaker . RoboMaker is a new service designed for developers so they can develop, test, deploy robotic applications build intelligent robotic capabilities using cloud services. The popular open-source robotics software framework Robot Operating System (ROS) is also able to leverage AWS connectivity to provide services such as machine learning, monitoring, analytics services. The end result is a robot that can stream data, navigate, communicate, understand, learn. Roger Barga, general manager of AWS RoboMaker, said that customers often find themselves spending a lot of time assembling infrastructure using different software for different parts of the robotics development cycle — a process that can reduce time to innovate. AWS further explained that robots complete set tasks through instructions software applications, processing of sensor data, the use of control actuators to create motion actions. This process is so simple, especially in "intelligent" robots. Object recognition, natural language processing, autonomous movement may require data scientists with machine learning experience can take days to set up.

“Once the application is complete, developers still need to build integrate an over-the-air (OTA) system to deploy the application to the robot then update the application while the robot is in use. All of this effort severely limits the number of robots intelligent capabilities in use today,” AWS explains.

AWS RoboMaker solves these problems by providing an integrated set of software services that help developers start application development with a single click in the AWS Management Console. RoboMaker automatically configures the underlying infrastructure. It also downloads, compiles, configures the operating system, development software, ROS. RoboMaker's fleet management is integrated with AWS Greengrass, supporting wireless deployment of robotic applications development to the robots themselves.

AWS has also expanded RoboMaker’s connectivity to AWS services. This includes cloud extensions such as Amazon Kinesis Video Streams ingestion (leverage video streaming connected devices to AWS for analytics machine learning), Amazon Rekognition (image video analysis), Amazon Lex (speech recognition), Amazon Polly (speech generation), Amazon CloudWatch (logging monitoring).

“By using automation, robotics, advanced technologies, Amazon can enable smarter, faster, more efficient fulfillment processes. We regularly evaluate how to use new technologies to bring better experiences to our customers,” said Brad Porter, Amazon Vice President renowned engineer robotics.

AWS RoboMaker will significantly reduce production costs time, Robotics has played an important role in creating a global solution that will help deliver faster reduce costs for customers, thus an impact on advanced robotic operations around the world. "It will be available in US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), EU (Ireland) in the future, will expand to other regions next year.
